Swamy: Sonia, Chidambaram responsible

June 07, 2011 01:14 am | Updated August 18, 2016 11:16 am IST - CHENNAI:

Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy said on Monday that Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram should accept joint responsibility for the police action against Baba Ramdev and his supporters at the Ramlila grounds in New Delhi in the early hours of Sunday.

In a statement here, Dr. Swamy claimed Ms. Gandhi had “instructed” Mr. Chidambaram to disperse the supporters of the yoga guru. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, he said, had hoped to resolve the matter in two days, and had retired for the night when the Home Minister was asked to take action, Dr. Swamy said. He demanded Mr. Chidambaram's resignation.
