Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday sought the sanction of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to prosecute Congress president Sonia Gandhi under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
At a press conference here, Dr. Swamy said a petition, containing 206 pages, was presented to Dr. Singh on Friday last. The request for sanction was required as Ms. Gandhi was the Chairperson of the National Advisory Council with Cabinet rank. If the Prime Minister refused to give the nod, he would move the Supreme Court.
Lauding social activist Anna Hazare for his work in rural development, Dr. Swamy said Mr. Hazare was “a man of great dedication and a great asset to the country.” Mr. Hazare was surrounded by those who belonged to the non-government organisations “who are bogus.” The social activist required the support of politicians to handle politicians.
On the outcome of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, he said that though the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam front might bag 10 seats more than the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam front, he was not in a position to say who would become the Chief Minister.
On the demand for the resignation of Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa in the wake of the Supreme Court-appointed Central Empowered Committee's finding on illegal mining, he said patrons of the Reddy brothers, who were Ministers in the Karnataka government, should be questioned first and they were in both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
