Despite the threat of dengue, lack of world class infrastructure at some of the Commonwealth Games venues and poor maintenance of some of the facilities, foreign tourist arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here in September has registered a substantial growth of 12.6 per cent as compared to last year.
According to government sources, the initial foreign tourist arrival figures from September 1 to 27 show that the number of increased from 1,06,185 in 2009 to 1,19,544 during the same period this year. “The total number of foreign tourist arrivals for the full month of September 2010 is estimated to be 1,32,827 which is likely to be 11 per cent higher than the number in September last year,” sources said. They said the overall scenario of foreign tourist arrivals, in terms of growth rate, in September this year appears to be better than that prevailing in September 2008 and 2009.
