Special Commissioner, IGP posts created in Kashmir

The Jammu and Kashmir government, on Monday, created the posts of Special Commissioner and Special Inspector-General of Police for Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara districts on ex-cadre basis.

An official spokesman said that Social Welfare Department Secretary Mohammad Sayeed Khan has been posted as Special Commissioner for Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara. He will discharge the duties and functions assigned to a Divisional Commissioner.

The Inspector-General of Police, Vigilance Organisation, Pankaj Saxena, has been posted as Special Inspector-General of Police for these districts and will discharge the duties of an Inspector-General of Police

The posts have been declared equivalent to that of the IAS post of the Divisional Commissioner and to the IPS post of Inspector-General of Police.

In 1990, the government had created posts of Special Commissioners for North and South Kashmir besides Rajouri and Poonch districts in Jammu. They were subsequently wound up after the improvement of the law and order situation.
