Proceedings in the Rajya Sabha were adjourned briefly on Friday after the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party protested against the renaming of Uttar Pradesh’s Mughalsarai railway station after Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, leader of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. The Sangh was the forerunner of the present day BJP.

The Home Ministry has approved the proposal on the request of the U.P. government.

Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha proceedings were also cut short as the Opposition protested against bribery charges against the Congress by BJP MP Kirit Somaiya. Mr. Somaiya claimed that payments worth ₹4 crore made by a hawala operator had allegedly reached the Congress. The issue sparked an uproar from the BJP benches, as Congress members sought to counter it.
