Two persons — a militant and a soldier — were killed in an ongoing operation against infiltrators in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday. Four soldiers were also injured in the cross fire.

The gunfire started on Tuesday morning when the Army spotted a group of infiltrators in Katwara forest area in Machil sector, Kupwara district, more than 120 km north of Srinagar. As the area was dense forest range, troops carried out the combing operation carefully, Defence sources said.

While five soldiers were injured in the exchange of fire, one of them succumbed to injuries later. “One militant is believed dead too. The operation is on,” the sources said. The Army has not officially confirmed any casualty.
