An Army jawan was seriously injured when he accidentally stepped on a landmine along the Line of Control in the border district of Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

The soldier was severely injured last evening when he accidentally stepped on a “drifted landmine” in the forward area of Naoshera, Rajouri district, a defence spokesperson said.

He said the injured soldier was immediately rushed to the military hospital.

“The soldier sustained injuries in his right leg and his condition is stated to be stable,” he said.

The landmines that are used to check infiltration along the Line of Control often drift from their position due to rains and other environment factors, the official said.
