SC asks Centre, States to decide on taking RTI online

November 04, 2014 01:15 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:02 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre and the States to decide on a plea to electronically provide information to applicants under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

A Bench led by Chief Justice H.L. Dattu asked the governments to take up a petition filed by Madhya Pradesh-based lawyer Rajeev Agrawal, and decide on it within three weeks.

The plea, filed through lawyer Amit Kumar, had sought a direction to the government to create “centralised RTI websites for submission of requests” and allow online filing of appeals and payment of fees with public authorities.
