The former IPS officer, Sanjiv Bhatt, has asked the Supreme Court to consider a series of e-mails submitted by him in court, claiming that they allegedly reveal the “collusion” between the prosecution and defence in several cases, from the 2002 Gujarat riots to the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter, involving high public functionaries like the then State Home Minister Amit Shah.
The e-mails are a dominant part of two separate applications mentioned before a Bench led by Chief Justice of India H.L. Dattu by senior advocate Indira Jaising on Monday. The Bench agreed to post the case for hearing on Tuesday. Mr. Bhatt, who was removed from service last month, said the e-mails were attached as additional documents in an affidavit filed by him in the Supreme Court on July 29, 2011.
In his application, Mr. Bhatt claimed that the e-mails were “uncovered” by him from the account of the then Additional Advocate-General for Gujarat, Tushar Mehta. Mr. Mehta is currently an Additional Solicitor-General in the Supreme Court.
Mr. Bhatt sought the impleadment of Mr. Shah, who is now BJP president, two senior officials who then served with the Gujarat government — G.C. Murmu and Pranav Badekha, journalist Gurumurthy Swaminathan, in a petition before the Supreme Court concerning the Vastrapur case. He also wanted contempt proceedings initiated.
