The Delhi High Court on Thursday granted protection from arrest till August 22 to Rajya Sabha MP and expelled AIADMK leader Sasikala Pushpa, her husband and their son.

A bench of justice Mukta Gupta granted relief to Ms. Pushpa, her husband Lingesvara Thilakan and son Pradeep Raja till August 22, by which date they will be in Delhi.

The court directed that no coercive action be taken against them till August 22.

On or before August 22, they will have to move appropriate court for anticipatory bail since the cases in which they apprehend arrest have been registered in Tamil Nadu.

The trio had moved the Delhi High Court seeking anticipatory bail as they apprehended arrest in cases registered against them in Tamil Nadu on complaints of assault made by their maid and her sister.

Appearing for Tamil Nadu, senior advocate Gopal Subramanium said the Delhi High Court did not have the jurisdiction to grant them anticipatory bail or transit anticipatory bail.

The Rajya sabha MP had also claimed threat to her life and that of her family after she refused to resign from the Upper House.

Ms. Pushpa was expelled from the AIADMK after an altercation with DMK MP TiruchI Siva at the Delhi airport. Since then, she has alleged, she was being threatened into resigning from her post.
