Safai Karamcharis panel demand quasi- judicial powers

September 29, 2011 11:20 pm | Updated 11:20 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

National Commission for Safai Karamcharis had made a case for a permanent status with adequate executive/quasi judicial powers on par with National Commission for Scheduled Castes, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes and National Commission for Backward Classes to enable it discharge its responsibilities effectively.

The 2010-11 annual report presented to the Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment Mukul Wasnik on Thursday by the Chairman of the Commission Kamla Gurjar has said that the policy of zero tolerance for dry latrines and elimination of manual scavenging required strict monitoring and implementation of the mandatory provision under the National Commission for Karmacharis Act.
