S. S. Krishnaji (86), journalist and president of the Kakinada-based A. P. Passengers Association, died in a hotel here on Monday. He is survived by two sons.

Krishnaji edited an English fortnightly, Bharat Ratna , for 46 years and keenly followed political developments and the careers of important leaders in the coastal region even before Independence. He contributed articles to The Hindu . He fought relentlessly almost throughout his life for better rail connectivity to Kakinada so that the town was linked to the trunk route and progressed faster. In particular, he wanted Kakinada to be linked to Pithapuram on the Howrah-Chennai route by a double line.
