BJP MP from Pune, where a techie was bludgeoned to death on Monday allegedly by members of a Hindutva outfit, on Thursday said some repercussions to the Facebook post derogatory of Shivaji and Bal Thackeray was “natural.”
“What appeared on Facebook was very painful. Some amount of repercussions was natural,” Anil Shirole told reporters outside Parliament.
The trigger for the attack on Shaikh Mohasin Sadiq (28) was apparently uploading of derogatory pictures of warrior king Shivaji and the late Shiv Sena supremo, Bal Thackeray, on Facebook by unknown persons, which also led to a protest bandh on Sunday.
At least seven persons said to be linked to the Hindu Rashtra Sena have been arrested for the murder. When asked for his comments on the involvement of the Hindu Rashtra Sena, the BJP MP said, “We will have to find out who are all involved in the matter. Police are probing.”
‘Proxy servers used’Rashmi Rajput reports from Mumbai:
The Maharashtra police have little hope of tracking the culprits who posted derogatory pictures of Maratha king Shivaji and Bal Thackeray on Facebook on Saturday, sparking violence in western Maharashtra.
The Ministry of External Affairs had written to Facebook seeking technical assistance in the case.
They were yet to revert formally but said informally that the contents were posted using proxy servers, a senior police officer told The Hindu , on condition of anonymity.
