Relief for martyrs’ children

The Defence Ministry has removed the cap on educational concession to children of armed forces personnel killed, disabled or missing in action. A cap of ₹10,000 a month was imposed in July last, as recommended by the Seventh Pay Commission. But the Ministry said it would reconsider the proposal following widespread criticism.

“Educational concession will continue without the cap of ₹10,000 a month,” said a government order dated March 21, 2018.

The concession will be given only for education in government/government-aided schools/institutes, military and sainik schools and other schools and colleges recognised by the Central and State governments, including the autonomous organisations financed entirely by the government, the order said.

About 250 students were expected to be affected by the cap in the current financial year.
