Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has asked Asaram Bapu to refrain from making “cheap statements” while also clarifying that the State government was not going soft on the self-styled godman accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl at a farmhouse in Jodhpur on Independence Day.

Meanwhile, a team of Jodhpur Police left for Bhopal on Friday evening to investigate the charge against Asaram after the godman faxed the police, expressing his inability to appear before it on the due date (Friday) owing to illness.

The police team will investigate the charge against Asaram at his Bhopal ashram, or wherever he will be if he leaves Bhopal, Deputy Commissioner of Police Jodhpur (West) Ajay Pal Lamba told The Hindu .
