Even as Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has written to the Special Task Force probing the Vyapam scam about the slow pace of investigations, 11 Bar associations of Madhya Pradesh have requested Governor Ram Naresh Yadav to refer the matter to the President for conducting a CBI probe.
In a letter addressed to Assistant Inspector General (STF-Vyapam) Ashish Khare, Mr. Singh expressed his displeasure at the STF not registering any “case of cognizable offence” against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh.
“I always thought that for Investigating agencies, order /judgment of Hon’ble High Court and Hon’ble Supreme Court are binding but in this case I am disappointed...(but) It seems the office of Chief Minister outweighs all other judicious actions,” he wrote.
He said the STF had neither registered a case nor began investigation into the allegations of tampering of evidence levelled by him.
“I informed SIT that there is destruction/tampering of evidence by Investigating agencies to shield the Chief Minister”, Mr. Singh wrote.
The Congress leader said the STF had not responded to his calls for providing evidence in the case.
Meanwhile, several lawyers submitted a memorandum to governor Ram Naresh Yadav, requesting him to refer the Vyapam scam to the President for it to be investigated by the CBI.
The lawyers also urged the Governor to seek Presidential sanction to book Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Minister Uma Bharti, claiming the STF had not made her an accused despite her name figuring in the “original” as well as the “tampered” excel sheets that have been part of the key evidence in the probe.
