The former Communications Minister, A. Raja, said on Wednesday that he would appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday for being questioned in the alleged scam in the 2G spectrum allocation.
“I will appear before the CBI on December 24 at 10 a.m.… I will appear for interrogation,” Mr. Raja told journalists here after his arrival from Chennai. “I made the request for [appearance on] December 24, and they [the CBI] have accepted it.”
Before leaving for New Delhi from Chennai, Mr. Raja told journalists that he would cooperate with the CBI.
The CBI had sent a notice under Section 160 of the Criminal Procedure Code to Mr. Raja, asking him to appear before it for interrogation.
Mr. Raja is likely to be questioned about the alleged irregularities and bias in the implementation of the telecom policy to favour some new mobile phone operators.
A few days ago, the CBI searched places belonging to Mr. Raja's relatives and business partners.
As per the Comptroller and Auditor-General of India's report, the exchequer had lost Rs.1.76 lakh crore because of the alleged irregularities committed by the Department of Telecommunications, under Mr. Raja, while issuing licences and spectrum in 2008.
