Nineteen people were killed on Monday in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh where the flood situation aggravated in several districts, affecting road and railway traffic, due to rain and rise in level of major rivers.
While five persons were killed in Bareilly, four deaths were reported from Unnao and two each from Faizabad, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Muzaffarnagar and Pilibhit, officials said.
Flood waters submerged more than 200 villages in Bareilly and Moradabad divisions as incessant rain lashed the region and water from the Ramganga and the Kosi released from Kalagarh, Naraura, Behgul, Nand Sagar and Dhaura dams.
Seven trains have been cancelled in the region in the wake of the deluge.
Bad weather prevented IAF helicopters, sent from Bareilly, to carry out rescue and relief operations in Bijnore and Uttarakhand from landing at the two places.
Vehicular movement on the national highway connecting Delhi with Lucknow, which was closed on Saturday after its section near Moradabad division was flooded, will remain suspended till September 22.
The Ganga was flowing one metre above the danger mark in Badaun district after five lakh cusecs was released from the Naraura dam.
Meanwhile in Rampur, two lakh people are affected due to floods.
According to the Central Water Commission, the Ganga is flowing almost at danger mark in Gumatia (Kannauj), Ankinghat (Kanpur dehat), Kanpur and Dalmau (Rae Bareli) and rising at Fafamau and Chatnag in Allahabad, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Ghazipur and Ballia.
The Ramganga is flowing above the red mark in Moradabad and rising in Bareilly and Dabri (Shahjahanpur).
The Yamuna is flowing above the danger mark at Prayag Ghat in Mathura and swelling in Bagahpat, Mohna, Etawah, Auraiyya, Naini (Allahabad) and Chillaghat (Banda).
Bihar floods

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday made an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas of Gopalganj and Saran districts where relief and rescue operations continued on a war footing.
Official sources said nearly one lakh people have been affected after the swollen Gandak breached its embankment at Simaria village in Gopalganj district inundating several villages under Barauli, Baikunthpur, and Singhwara blocks.
Official sources said five units of the National Disaster Response Force have been deployed in Gopalganj, two at Chapra and one at Siwan.
