The Maoist-backed Police Santrash Birodhi Janasadharaner Committee (PSBJC) has called yet another bandh for Wednesday in the naxal-affected districts of Paschim Medinipur, Bankura and Purulia in West Bengal to protest against alleged atrocities inflicted on villagers by Communist Party of India (Marxist) supporters.

On Tuesday, the PSBJC announced the launch of an indefinite blockade programme from Thursday, citing the same reason.

Meanwhile, Maoists have also called a 24-hour bandh in Paschim Medinipur for Thursday in protest against the arrest of a woman cadre.

Speaking to TheHindu over telephone from the Lalgarh region, PSBJC spokesperson Asit Mahato alleged that hundreds of CPI(M) cadres on Monday overran several villages in the Salboni area of Paschim Medinipur, ransacking and looting houses and beating up villagers.

“We demand the immediate withdrawal of all CPI(M) camps in the region and seizure of their arms, failing which we will continue with our blockade programme,” he said
