Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad on Saturday slammed BJP president Amit Shah and demanded a probe into huge growth of his son’s assets.

He was addressing a Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee function here to celebrate the birth anniversary of the State’s first Chief Minister Sri Krishna Singh.

However, the ruling JD(U) and BJP leaders criticised the Congress for inviting “tainted” Mr. Prasad as chief guest at their function, while Congress leaders asked them “was Lalu a good man when Nitish Kumar shared power with him?”

“The BJP and its leaders call me and my sons as scamsters… what is Amit Shah’s son doing?… how could assets of the company of Jay Shah suddenly grew thousand times?...why there is no investigation into it?” the RJD supremo wanted to know.

Slams GST

He slammed the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for implementing Goods and Services Tax in the country. “GST has ruined the economy of the country,” charged Mr. Prasad.

Acting BPCC president Kaukab Quadri, senior Congress leaders Meira Kumar, Akhilesh Singh, Nikhil Kumar and Sadanand Singh were present at the function. “The Congress will revive its glorious past in Bihar,” said Mr. Akhilesh Singh, likely to be the next BPCC president.

The RJD chief shared stage with Congress leaders for the first time after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar walked out of the grand alliance to form the NDA government in Bihar.

However, on Saturday, Mr. Prasad landed in trouble when the Bihar government handed over the investigation of the ‘soil scam’ to the State Vigilance department. Mr Prasad’s elder son Tej Pratap Yadav, who was Forest and Environment Minister in the previous grand alliance government, is an accused in the scam.

It is charged that Tej Pratap awarded a ₹90-lakh contract to fill the earth in the Patna Zoo to a company with the soil dug out from a shopping mall site allegedly belonged to his siblings and mother.

Total surrender

Meanwhile, the JD(U) and BJP leaders criticised the Congress saying, “The Congress in Bihar has totally surrendered to Lalu.” But, Congress leader Kaukab Quadri defended the decision of inviting Mr. Prasad for the event saying, “Lalu has been a tall leader who stood with the ideology of secularism.”
