Pranav Pandya of Gayatri Pariwar nominated to the RS

NEW DELHI

The home ministry on Wednesday said that President Pranab Mukherjee had nominated Dr Pranav Pandya, the head of the All World Gayatri Pariwar as a nominated member to the Rajya Sabha. He is the seventh name to be announced, filling all the vacancies among nominated berths. A total of 12 MPs are nominated to the Rajya Sabha from various fields of public life. Seven of these seats had fallen vacant recently.

The government had, on April 22 announced six names in the nominated category to the Rajya Sabha out of a possible seven berths that were vacant. BJP leaders Subramaniam Swamy and Navjyot Singh Siddhu, boxer Mary Kom, Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi, economist Narendra Jadhav and journalist Swapan Dasgupta were among those who had been nominated. Mystery prevailed over the vacant seventh berth, that was resolved on Wednesday.

Dr Mumbai-born Pandya, an MD in medicine, and is director and head of the All World Gayatri Pariwar (AWGP) that claims to be a modern adoption Vedic values and has its headquarters in Haridwar.
