The Delhi Police, probing the alleged molestation of an Indian-American woman by Australian cricketer Luke Pomersbach, have asked Miraj, a friend of the victim's fiancé, to join the investigations.
Miraj was seen in the closed-circuit television camera footage obtained from the hotel, where the incident allegedly occurred.
“We have asked Miraj to join the investigations and get his statement recorded. He is in Mumbai, and is expected to reach Delhi on Monday. He is seen in the CCTV footage collected from the hotel, and his statement is important for the case. If we come across more witnesses, we will record their statements too,” a senior police officer said.
The officer said Miraj was told to come down to Delhi after the statement of the victim's fiancé, Sahil Peerzada, was recorded on Saturday. “A team recorded his statement at Primus Hospital… and he corroborated what the victim had earlier told us,” the officer said.
The officer said they were now collecting “connecting evidence.” “Having recorded the statements, we are now collecting details like who booked the rooms for the victim and when.”
The cricketer, who was partying along with his teammates and others to celebrate Royal Challengers Bangalore's victory on last Thursday, allegedly “tagged along” with the victim and her fiancé to their room and molested her. According to the victim, Sahil intervened and asked Pomersbach to leave, but he allegedly assaulted him.
Meanwhile, Primus Super-Speciality Hospital spokesperson Deep Makkar said the condition of Sahil was stable, and he was expected to be discharged on Monday. “His condition has shown a steady improvement, and we changed the dressing on his ear today [on Sunday]. We have kept him under observation and will discharge him by tomorrow [on Monday], if all goes well. There is no bleeding from his injured ear, and no hearing loss as of now. He was brought to us with an injury on his left ear and extensive bruises on his limbs,” Dr. Makkar said.
