A Paro-bound Drukair aircraft, with 68 passengers and crew on board, was evacuated on Sunday after the commander received information of smoke being emitted from the plane at the Kolkata airport.
All 61 passengers were deplaned through emergency chutes soon after the push back of the aircraft on Sunday morning, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose (NSCB) International Airport director Atul Dikshit said.
A team of Coast Guard officials, on a routine inspection at the airport provided emergency medical aid to the passengers who suffered minor injuries during the evacuation.
“We spotted smoke coming out of the Bhutan Airline (A5-BAB) Airbus and observed that all emergency chutes were deployed,” Deputy Commandant Pankaj Mishra said. The team offered initial first-aid to around 20 passengers before Airports Authority of India officials took over the evacuation.
