Eight Air India flights to and from Chennai were cancelled on Thursday following the strike by AI pilots, officials here said.

A service to Singapore besides in-bound flights from cities including Kolkata were cancelled, officials at the airport here said.

Meanwhile, passengers of some low-cost airlines protested the ‘sudden hike’ in ticket fares in the wake of strike by the pilots of the state-owned carrier.

About 800 pilots belonging to the erstwhile Indian Airlines went on strike yesterday demanding pay parity with Air India pilots and better working conditions.

The Air India management had declared the strike illegal and derecognised the Indian Commercial Pilots’ Association (ICPA) besides sealing its offices in Delhi and Mumbai.
