Pawar falls sick, cancels Sangli visit

March 24, 2013 11:39 pm | Updated 11:39 pm IST - Mumbai:

Union Agriculture Minister and Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar on Sunday cancelled his visit to Sangli district after he felt ill and arrived in Pune to take rest, sources in the party said.

Mr. Pawar (71), after attending a function in Kolhapur district, felt uneasy when he was en route to Sangli and was examined by local doctors, who advised him complete rest.

He was to share the dais with Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav at a function in Sangli district.

Mr. Pawar immediately flew to Pune in a helicopter to his residence in Shivajinagar after presiding over a ‘Sarpanch Mahaparishad’ in Kolhapur. The sources ascribed Mr. Pawar’s uneasiness to a drop in the blood sugar level.

“There is no cause for alarm… Mr. Pawar walked to his car after landing in Pune…it’s just a touch of discomfort,” party spokesman Nawab Malik told The Hindu .
