Pakistan takes up PIA property, visa issue with India

January 19, 2015 12:31 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:20 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Pakistan took up the issue of the troubles the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) office in Delhi is facing with the government officially on Sunday, the foreign affairs spokesperson in Islamabad said.

According to an official release, Pakistan had “raised the issue of extension of visas” and “the Indian authorities have been informed about the notice received by the PIA office in New Delhi regarding its property.”

A report in The Hindu on Sunday had highlighted the situation of the lone air link provider between India and Pakistan, PIA, which had received a notice from the Enforcement Directorate in November 2014 to dispose off its property in Delhi’s Connaught place purchased nearly a decade ago. At the same time, the Northern Manager for the airline, who had applied for a visa extension for himself and his family in December 2014, had not received the extension yet.

Reacting to The Hindu ’s report, The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson in Delhi, Syed Akbaruddin, referred to the issue as “a storm in a teacup, that hasn’t even reached us yet.”

However, he said that “the visa is a normal, routine thing, and my understanding is that a process is under way on that.” The official statement from Islamabad also noted that, now that the issue had been raised diplomatically, it will “hopefully be resolved soon.”
