Pakistani troops on Friday violated the ceasefire by firing with small arms and mortars on Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting Indian troops to retaliate.

“Pak troops resorted to small arms firing and mortars firing on Indian posts along LoC in Doda battalion area in Poonch district from 0935 hours”, a senior Army officer said.

Army troops guarding the borderline fired back resulting in intermittent exchanges of fire, which were still going on, he said.

The officer said there were inputs that militants were trying to infiltrate to this side and the firing was “probably a ploy to ensure infiltration of terrorist under the cover of firing”.
