It was a momentous occasion when foundation stones were laid for three national institutions on a single day in Yerpedu mandal of Srikalahasti near here on Saturday.
Union Ministers Smriti Irani (Human Resources Development), M. Venkaiah Naidu (Urban Development) and Y.S. Chowdary (Science and Technology) as well as Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu made this point to highlight the potential in store for Tirupati to emerge as a ‘knowledge hub’. Speaking after laying the foundation stone for Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indian Institute for Science Education and Research (IISER) and Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT Chittoor), Ms. Irani said these premier institutes would change the very face of Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema in particular. While the IIT could focus on ‘Smart infrastructure’ in tune with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to develop smart cities, IISER could concentrate on ‘Earth systems and climate change’ and the IIIT to realise the ‘Digital India’ dream, she said.
