MHA officer sent to judicial custody

May 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:11 am IST - New Delhi:

A Special court for CBI cases here on Tuesday remanded MHA Under Secretary Anand Joshi to judicial custody till June 6.

CBI is prosecuting him for allegedly arbitrarily issuing notices to several NGOs registered under the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act (FCRA) for bribe.

Special Judge Vinod Kumar sent Mr. Joshi to judicial custody when the investigating agency informed him that he was not required for further questioning.

Earlier, the probe agency produced him before the court on the expiry of his four days’ extended police custody.

CBI interrogated Mr. Joshi in its custody for nine days. The investigating agency had arrested him on May 15.

Mr. Joshi had gone underground after the CBI registered the case and conducted searches at his Ghaziabad residence.

The agency had arrested him at Tilak Nagar in West Delhi as he was not cooperating in the investigation. CBI alleged that files relating to several NGOs had gone missing from the Home Ministry.

They were later recovered from his house although he was not supposed to take them home. He had been dishonestly issuing notices to several NGOs or Societies registered under the FCRA, the CBI alleged.
