Maoist killed in Chhattisgarh encounter

A Maoist commander was killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh on Monday.

Inspector-General of Police (Bastar range) SRP Kalluri said a joint team of the DRG (District Reserve Guard), the District Force and the Chhattisgarh Armed Force was involved in the encounter with Maoists on Monday morning in the Modenar forest area of Dantewada district. Later the security forces recovered the body of Sukhram, deputy commander of the Maoists’ Katekalyan Local Operating Squad.

According to the IG, Sukhram had 18 police cases registered against him of which four related to damaging railway track.

12 Maoists surrender

Meanwhile, 9 Maoists surrendered in Kondagaon district of Chhattisgarh and three surrendered in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra on Monday, the police said. A statement by the Kondagaon district police said 8 members of the Maoist militia and one member of the Maoists’ cultural wing, Natya Chetna Mandali, surrendered before district Superintendent of Police J. S. Watti.
