HC allows Salman Khan to travel to Dubai

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday allowed actor Salman Khan to travel to Dubai to perform at an awards function on May 29.

Hearing his application, Justice Shalini Phansalkar-Joshi allowed him to make the trip from May 27 to 30 for the Indo-Arab Bollywood Awards show.

Conditions

It laid down several conditions for the actor. Mr. Khan has to submit a detailed travel plan to the investigating agency, including his flight numbers and time, his address and contact numbers in Dubai. He has to inform the Indian consulate in the United Arab Emirates about his arrival and departure. In addition, he has to inform the High Court on June 1 about his return to India.

Mr. Khan also has to furnish additional cash security of Rs. 2 lakh to the sessions court. On these terms, the High Court directed the police to hand over the actor’s passport, which he has to surrender to the police within 12 hours of his return.

His passport is in the custody of the Bandra police. In an earlier order, the High Court ruled that he would have to approach the court every time he wanted to travel abroad.

Mr. Khan was recently in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, to attend the wedding reception of his sister Arpita Khan.

On May 6, a sessions court convicted him and sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment on the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. On May 8, the High Court stayed his sentence and granted him bail till his appeal challenging the trial court’s order is heard. Final hearing on the appeal will take place in July.
