The Inspector General of Police (IGP), North Zone, will investigate the alleged nexus between certain key police officers in Kochi and Kavitha Pillai, prime accused in a cheating case in which many were promised admission to various medical colleges.
Talking to mediapersons at Meenakshipuram here on Sunday, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said he had already given instruction to the IGP to investigate the issue.
He was responding to a telephonic conversation by Kavitha Pillai, which was aired by a few television channels the other day. In the conversation conducted allegedly with the relative of a person arrested in Kochi under anti-narcotics laws, Kavitha Pillai talked at length about the level of corruption existing among police officials in Kochi.
She reportedly promised the relative of the arrested person that she would ensure rescue of the youth if handed over the money required to bribe police officials.
Mr. Chennithala said only an investigation could prove whether the charges were true or false.
He said action would be taken if the charges were proved.
He said his government was committed to ensure a free and fair police administration devoid of corruption. The police force would be kept outside political as well as influence of middlemen, he said.
The Home Minister, later, inaugurated a new police station at Meenakshipuram.
