The Delhi Jal Board said on Friday that it was forced to transfer a “terrorised” junior engineer after he was allegedly beaten up by a Bharatiya Janata Party MLA on July 14.

The engineer, who is responsible for sewer maintenance, had gone to Rajinder Nagar MLA R.P. Singh’s office when he was assaulted, allegedly “without provocation”, according to DJB spokesperson Sanjam Chima. This was a routine meeting to discuss area residents’ problems, said Ms. Chima. “The engineer was so terrorised after the incident that we had to force him to tell us the details. He was so scared that his superior officer had to file an FIR with the Rajinder Nagar police station on Tuesday,” said Ms. Chima. The DJB said it had urged the SHO of the Rajinder Nagar station to take action against the MLA. (With inputs from Sowmiya Ashok)
