Just hours after the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray made a statement that one should not pay toll tax even if demanded at any toll booth in Maharashtra, his workers went on a rampage vandalising toll booths across the State.
The workers vandalised four toll booths in Nagpur, one in Thane and one in Mumbai on late Sunday night.
During the inauguration of the MNS Vashi office, on Sunday, Mr. Thackeray instructed party workers not to pay toll across Maharashtra.
Party sources told The Hindu that they will intensify the agitation on Tuesday.
Last Thursday, the Thane police had arrested 20 MNS workers for vandalising toll booths in Dombivali.
At 10 am on Thursday, around 30 MNS workers vandalised the Katai Toll Naka in Dombivali. The party workers claim that they were protesting against the illegal toll collections and against the poor road conditions for which the toll was being paid by the commuters. The group was led by MLA Ramesh Patil.
The arrested workers were booked for damage to public property.
