Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Wednesday said he hoped to see the Communal Violence (Prevention, Control & Rehabilitation of Victims) Bill, 2009 passed before year-end.
Delivering the inaugural address at the annual conference of the State Minorities Commissions here, he said he was aware of the criticism against the Bill. “It is my belief that when the official amendments are moved in Parliament, many of the shortcomings will be removed.”
The government was open to suggestions for further improvement and would consider any that came up during the debate. “It is my earnest hope that before the end of the year, the Bill will have been passed.”
