The Nagaland government on Saturday has ordered a one-man judicial inquiry commission to be headed by Veprassa Nyekha, District and Sessions Judge (retd.) to probe the lynching of a person by a mob in Dimapur on Thursday.
A mob on Thursday had stormed the Central Jail in Dimapur, dragged out Syed Farid Khan — a rape accused — before parading him naked and beating him to death on the streets of Dimapur town.
There was no fresh outbreak of violence on Friday night at Dimapur, the commercial town of Nagaland. However, the State and the Central paramilitary forces continued to patrol the trouble prone areas as curfew and prohibitory orders were still in force.
The commission shall look into all aspects of the deaths of Sayed Sarif Khan from Assam and Inito Swu, a civilian of Dimapur, during the Thursday's mayhem. The commission shall submit the report within 45 days.
Earlier, the government also suspended District Collector of Dimapur, Wezope Kenye and Superintendent of Police Meren Jamir in connection with the mob violence.
Buses, trucks and private vehicles bound for Imphal returned to Assam as they cannot pass through Dimapur and had started coming along NH 37.
