NSA Doval to meet Mamata on Bardhaman blasts

October 26, 2014 11:51 pm | Updated October 18, 2016 02:38 pm IST - KOLKATA:

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval’s visit the site of the Bardhaman blasts and meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday, has a clear message from the country’s security establishment to the State government. “The Bardhaman blast is no longer an internal issue that the Trinamool government can deal with, as law and order is a State subject. It is now a question of national security and hence the State is requested to cooperate and facilitate the probe,” said a senior security official. The officer said that over the last week or so the State government had also realised the implications of the blast and shown flexibility.

The task of the suspected terror modules in West Bengal was making and transporting explosive devices to Bangladesh to destabilise the Awami League government, known for its proximity to India.

“Owing to the vulnerability of the region, a separate team led by a JMB operative was given charge and he operated in the area for a substantial period, till the blast,” said a retired security official.

Mr. Doval will discuss the issue of the modules with the NIA and IB officials and meet the Chief Minister. Chief of National Security Guard J.N. Chaudhury and Intelligence Bureau chief Syed Asif Ibrahim are expected to be present at the meeting.
