Giving a clean chit to his Nationalist Congress Party Minister Fauzia Khan, Maharashtra Home Minister R.R. Patil on Friday said there was nothing on record to show that 26/11 terror suspect Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal stayed in her rooms at the MLA hostel in Mumbai in 2006.
Replying to a debate on law and order, Mr. Patil told the Legislative Assembly that instead of giving credit to the police for the arms haul in 2006 which prevented terror strikes in Maharashtra and Gujarat, the Opposition was carping on which room Ansari visited in the MLAs’ hostel and where did he wash.
Leader of the Opposition Eknath Khadse had said that Ansari, during interrogation, had admitted to staying in Ms. Khan’s rooms in 2006 and planning some attacks there. He had demanded Ms. Khan’s resignation and an inquiry into the issue.
However, Mr. Patil said every Minister had two rooms allotted in the hostel and many people went in and out. Can any MLA give information on who visited their rooms and who came and went? Ms. Khan is Minister of State for Women .
