Nod for Parasaran, Miri entry into Rajya Sabha

President Pratibha Patil on Thursday approved the nomination of K. Parasaran and Mrinal Miri as Rajya Sabha members under the eminent personality category under Article 80, an official release said.

Mr. Parasaran, who was Advocate General of Tamil Nadu and subsequently the Solicitor General of India, has been appointed for a term of six years, from the date of notification to be issued by the government, a Ministry of Home Affairs release said. A recipient of Padma Vibhushan in 2011, he was also the Attorney General of India from 1983 to 1989.

Similarly, Professor Miri has been appointed after a seat fell vacant due to the death of Ram Dayal Munda. His tenure will be up to March 21, 2016. Professor Miri is a noted philosopher and educationist and has been the Director of the Institute of Advanced Study in Shimla. He was later appointed as Vice-Chancellor of the North-Eastern Hill University in Shillong.
