Union Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily on Saturday said that the number of subsidised cooking gas cylinders would not be increased from the existing limit of nine in a year.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here, Mr. Moily said that there was no proposal before the Union government to increase the number of subsidised cylinders to 12 in a year.
Reiterating that petroleum companies were empowered to decide the price of LPG, the Minister said that the hike in the price of nonsubsidised LPG cylinders affected only a small percentage of people.
Mr. Moily said that the Centre was not considering any proposal to rollback the power given to oil companies to fix the price.
