No division of Tripura, says Sarma

The BJP said on Wednesday that it did not support the demand for carving out a separate State from Tripura, and its alliance with the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) for the February 18 Assembly polls was on the basis of a common minimum programme.

During campaigning, leaders of the ruling CPI(M) have been accusing the BJP of supporting the IPFT’s Statehood demand.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam BJP leader and chairman of the North East Democratic Alliance, said, “We believe in a united and vibrant Tripura. Our joint statement does not have anything to do with the Statehood demand.”
