Lok Jan Shakti Party president Ram Vilas Paswan on Wednesday demanded the resignation of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in the wake of alleged misuse of money in the State. He wondered as to why the Congress was silent on the issue.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Paswan said the CAG had exposed the corrupt practices in Mr. Kumar's government — right from financial mismanagement to irregularities in expenditure and non-accountable withdrawals.
Mr. Paswan said the State government was not able to account for the expenditure of Rs. 22,573. 37 crore incurred till September 14, 2011, besides its inability to establish a fraudulent withdrawal of Rs. 409.15 crore. He demanded a CBI probe to establish the facts and the resignation of the Chief Minister pending inquiry for a fair investigation.
The LJP president attacked the Congress for “turning a blind eye” to corruption in Bihar. He said that it would not pay any dividend to the Congress to view Mr. Kumar as a probable ally when he was unlikely to part company with the BJP. He said he had met Congress leaders to register his protest and sought the reason behind their silence since the party had not spared any opportunity to target BSP chief Mayawati.
