State asked to explain media reports of post-mortems held in dilapidated room

The National Human Rights Commission on Sunday issued notice to the Madhya Pradesh government following a media report that post-mortem examinations were being conducted in a roofless room in a town in the State’s Sagar district. The Commission has asked the Principal Secretary (Health) of the State to submit a detailed report within four weeks.

An NHRC release said the Commission had taken suo motu cognisance of a media report that for over three years now, residents of Bhagat Singh Ward in Garhakota town of Sagar district in the State were leading a “hellish life” as autopsies were being conducted in an open room of a collapsed building of the Government hospital there.

According to the media report, the building, located right in the middle of a residential colony, collapsed over three years ago and was yet to be repaired.
