Parliamentarians from Nepal on Saturday had an interaction with their Indian counterparts to decide on the kind of federal system to be adopted in their country ahead of finalising their new constitution.
The first India Nepal Parliamentary Forum organised here by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) was attended by a host of MPs from Nepal, and helping them to understand the system and strengthen ties between the two countries was a team of Indian MPs.
The Nepalese team was led by Krishna Bahadur Mahara, a member of the Constituent Assembly belonging to the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), while on the Indian side, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Shukla was assisted by veterans like Sitaram Yechury and Yashwant Sinha.
Weighing options
Nepal is weighing the options of adopting either a Presidential form of government or a Parliamentary system as in India.
“We are seeing the central, federal and local authorities in India and how they are functioning and sharing the resources,” the Nepal MPs said.
