The Navy has instituted an inquiry into the conduct of a senior officer associated with the project for acquisition of Russian aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya (Admiral Gorshkov) following some reports about him.

A Navy spokesperson said there were reports about the moral conduct of the officer. The inquiry would establish whether his actions had any influence on the performance of his official duties.

The officer's conduct came under the scanner after some “objectionable photographs'' involving him and a Russian woman were received here. The officer was looking after the project for two years till 2007 and remained associated with it on his return.

India signed a fresh deal of $ 2.34 billion with Russia for procuring the warship, which was originally bought for $ 974 million in 2004.
