A day after Samajwadi Party (SP) president Mulayam Singh mooted a “suggestion” of merging the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) with his party, Ajit Singh attacked his former political ally for “day-dreaming” and suggested that Mr. Mulayam Singh should instead concentrate on his party. The RLD president reminded the SP chief that in the 2007 Assembly elections the SP's strength had come down to 88 from 200.
Mr. Mulayam Singh said at a press conference in Delhi on Sunday that with due apologies to Mr. Ajit Singh, RLD was a party of three districts (of Uttar Pradesh) and that he should think of merging it with the SP.
He told journalists here on Monday that there was no interaction with Mr. Mulayam Singh for more than a year. “The SP chief must be day-dreaming. He should concentrate on his party”. Mr. Ajit Singh said though the RLD had decided to go it alone in the 2012 Assembly polls, a final decision on the possibility of poll alliance would be taken in the party's conclave in Varanasi on July 29 and 30.
