Calling Mother Teresa a ‘messenger of God,' West Bengal Governor M.K. Narayanan said here on Saturday that the Mother's healing touch reached every human being across barriers and brought about a fundamental change in people's lives.
Addressing a function to mark the 10 th Mother Teresa International Award Ceremony, organised by the Mother Teresa International Award Committee, Mr. Narayanan said he could not find words to describe the Mother who, he said, was “someone whom the world admires, who left the world a better place.”
Pointing to his life-long career as a police official, which according to him was a world of law and order and fighting injustice, Mr. Narayanan said that he still had been associated with several Christian institutions.
“I have always admired Sister Alphonsa,” Mr. Narayanan said.
Talking about the Mother, he said: “She was more than a symbol of compassion. She was a beacon of love, hope and care. We saw her as a saint, as a humanitarian who touched the hearts of all.”
Reciting a line from the Mother's teachings that said ‘Do not wait for leaders to do it alone. Do it person to person,' he pointed to the aptness of the sentences in the modern world and called upon people to take the initiative themselves rather than waiting for others to do it.
