Mumbai Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh on Wednesday said that at least five women constables would be appointed in every station in view of the growing crimes against women in the city.
“Their cell numbers will be displayed prominently so that women can approach them easily,” he said.
Mr. Singh also issued instructions to senior officers to personally look into such complaints and emphasised that the police are committed to ensuring the safety of “daughters, sisters and mothers in the city.”
The police have already installed 1000 complaint boxes across the city. They now plan to increase the number to 4000 at various public places including schools, colleges, and police beat stations.
Police stations are now slated to make a list of trouble-makers in their jurisdictions. They have also been instructed to hold regular meetings with various women’s organisations in the area.
