Modi draws flak on Assembly proceedings

April 03, 2014 01:57 am | Updated May 21, 2016 07:51 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Congress on Wednesday delved into Assembly proceedings of the past decade to question the ‘Gujarat model of democracy,’ saying Chief Minister Narendra Modi “never” addressed the Legislature.

Briefing mediapersons here, Union Minister and Congress spokesman Anand Sharma said Mr. Modi did not address the House even during the motion of thanks to the Governor’s speech. Neither did he ever reply to questions when they pertained to ministries under his watch.

Further, Mr. Sharma alleged, one-third of the starred questions asked by the Opposition would never even reach the House. It had become a norm to suspend Opposition members every session.

To top it all, the Gujarat Assembly had never met for more than 23 days in a year, he said.

Reaching out to the media, the spokesman said Mr. Modi had never shown respect to the fourth estate by addressing a press conference.
