The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday clarified that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not attend any meeting of the Tripura Cabinet during his visit to the State as was suggested by a section of the media.

The party issued a statement clarifying that Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and his Cabinet Ministers would meet Mr. Modi to discuss State-related issues. “The actual fact is that during the Prime Minister’s visit to Tripura, the Chief Minister and State Ministers are going to meet him at the State Guest House. They will submit a memorandum and discuss with him issues concerning the State. This has been clarified by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar,” the statement said.

The party also pointed out that such a meeting of State Ministers had also taken place during the visit by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Tripura.

In Agartala, Mr. Sarkar and other State Ministers met Mr. Modi at the State guest house on Monday afternoon and submitted the memorandum of demands to the Prime Minister.
